snapshots from my humanitarian world

sierra leone urban wash programme (2015)

from july - september 2015, I took over as the Programme Manager for Oxfam's Urban WASH programme in Freetown, Sierra Leone. It was an incredibly interesting project, working within a consortium of other major international non-government organizations, supporting community health volunteers, building water sources, creating environmental health campaigns, and providing cash for work activities to improve water, sanitation and hygiene, among others. It was also my first experience fully working within an Urban WASH programme, an interesting new challenge especially coming from a background of natural disasters more frequently impacting rural communities. On top of having an interesting new context to work in, I also had a lovely, incredibly hard-working team with such different personalities, who very quickly turned into my family in the span of three months.
